Three siblings, including two sisters, hailing from Kahra Bhaleesa area of Doda region of Jammu and Kashmir have cracked the JKAS exam, the results of which were declared on Friday.
Reports said Suhail Ahmad Wani, son of Muneer Ahmad Wani, and his two sisters – Huma Wani and Ifra Wani – were declared successful in the exam.
While Muneer obtained 1055 marks, sisters Huma and Ifra scored 1050 and 1034.5 marks respectively.
While 20790 candidates had appeared for the preliminary test, 4642 of them qualified for the mains. Following personality test, between December 5, 2022 and January 19, 2023, the JKPSC has declared 187 candidates selected for the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service.

187 candidates declared successful in exam for JKAS
In an extraordinary meeting held on January 19, 2023, the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission decided to declare the result of all the candidates who had appeared in the interview and also notify their aggregate marks. The Commission also announced that 187 candidates, as per Annexure-II of the notification, and other rules on the subject, have qualified for medical examination and are directed to report to the respective medical boards in GMC Jammu and Srinagar for the conduct of their medical examination as per proforma, in accordance with rules on the subject.
JKPSC declared the results of the exam on Friday morning. As per a notification, 187 candidates have been declared successful in the exam.
It is important to note that the candidates recommended for medical examination will have to pay a fee before the medical check-up, and that mere calling a candidate for medical examination shall not confer any right on him/her to be recommended for selection.
Detailed marks cards will be available on the website of the commission after completion of the examination process and after forwarding the select list to the government for making appointments. The lists notified as Annexure-I & II to this notification are provisional and subject to the outcome of any writ petitions pending before any competent court of jurisdiction.
Success Stories Abound
There were many successful stories in the result of JKAS. The son of a late tea seller from Udipora village of Handwara in north Kashmir has qualified for the prestigious JKAS exam with a 180 rank in his second attempt.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Syed Abid Shah Bukhari from a remote village in north Kashmir’s Sopore is one of the hundreds of aspirants who qualified for the Union Territories’ most prestigious Civil Services by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC).
Syed Abid Shah Bukhari, son of the late Syed Fayaz Shah Bukhari, a resident of Machipora Reshiabad Zainageer has acquired the 28th rank in the recently declared Kashmir Administrative Service exam. Tragically, His father, a pharmacist, was killed in cross firing in 2004 at the Hathishah Bridge in Sopore.
The hope on ground zero is that Jammu and Kashmir Administrative services selected candidates will be exemplary administrators for the union territory.
Eminent knowledge source Wikipedia mentions about the exam that on attempting the number of questions for the KAS post, the percentage of points are deducted in decimal numbers for each incorrect answer which makes negative marking on the pattern of Union Public Service Commission.
The examination is conducted in three phases – a preliminary selection of candidate, consisting of objective-type papers which approves the eligibility of candidates to enter the main examination. The second and main phase consists of a nine question papers of essay type, necessitating candidates in descriptive type answers. and phase-III consists of viva exam pattern, involving the candidates to challenge the Oral exam, intending to judge the mental caliber of a candidate for various subject.
