We are in the year 2023, the new day of the new year. We have given farewell to 2022 .
The year has been normal year in terms of the overall security situation and law and order concerns of Jammu and Kashmir.
A major change is witnessed across the Union Territory with in last three years. The kilings, terror attacks and recruitment have been minimized.

Target killings – a sad trend

It is unfortunate that after abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, the target killings, especially of non Muslims in Kashmir saw an increase. Many such target killings by the terror groups in Kashmir were reported. The killings were carried out by the proscribed militant organizations like Lashkar-e-toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hizbul Mujideen and their proxies like the Resistance Front, Kashmir Freedom Fighters, Peoples Anti Fascist Front and others on the pretext of democratic change in Kashmir.

Non violence doesn’t mean Kashmir is normal

The overall security situation of Kashmir does not depends on the attack and killings only. The previous years like 2008, 2010, 2011, 2016 and 2018 were times of severe street agitations and violent protests in Kashmir.
Those years were the most testing times for the security forces to control and stablise the law and order problems.
Following the abrogation of Article 370, Kashmir is largely normal. Frequently, no law and order situation has been reported. But on the other hand, non violence cannot be termed as” Kashmir is normal” . The roots of alienation and radicalization have deep roots which can’t be uprooted so easily.
The ideology which has put Kashmir on fire since last decades is still there. The minds have not changed yet.

Children are being indoctrinated

Yesterday afternoon while I was having lunch with my family, my little son asked me, if we are Muslims why are we attached to india? I was startled that who has fed him such notions.
I responded to him, what is the problem if we are with India? He replied that we are Muslim. We should be Pakistanis because Pakistan is a Muslim country while India is a Hindu dominanted country. I asked her who told all this to you? He smiled and replied that I heard only this thing from every person in Kashmir.
It is extremely unfortunate that propagating the ideology based on religious radialisation starts from early age among peer groups in Kashmir. The inocent buds learn what they are taught and fed in homes.

Separatist mindset is biggest problem

Pakistan sponsored terrorism is a problem in Kashmir, but it is manageable for the security forces.
The number of terrorists in Kashmir has never crossed the 300 mark. The number always fluctuated between 200 to 250.
In Uttar Pradesh there are more than 600 history sheeters with the charges of multiple murders and attempt to murder cases. However the history sheeters have never been a problem because they don’t posses any kind of alienation. There is no toxic ideology in their minds and their interest did not serves any other country like in Kashmir. The major problem in Kashmir in the propogation of ideology of separatism and pakistanization of Kashmir. This is embedded in the mind of children from early years by the environment.

Strong action by govt should continue

In the year 2022 the govt policies addressed the issue of tackling and stopping the propogation of ideology at basic level. From lodging PSA and UAPA to those who try to destabilise the peacful environment of Kashmir to razing of militants houses to the ground, the government initiated multiple policies to address the issue.
The police makers were seen to have a strong approach to deal with terrorism and radicalization, by plugging all the loopholes that encouraged it.
This is worth praising. Earlier, the government employees had mastered the art of not doing any work in government offices. This attitude has also been addressed.
The nepotism and the corruption has been reduced. The patriotism or the love for nation, though forcibly generated, is now gaining ground. Many efforts have helped in this, like unfulring the tri color on the top of government buildings and government offices. All these efforts have made think and then act.

In 2022, govt policies addressed the issue of tackling and stopping the propogation of separatist ideology at basic level. The police makers were seen to have a strong approach to deal with terrorism and radicalization, by plugging all the loopholes that encouraged it. This is leading to a positive impact on the society
