The ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has scripted history in the western state of Gujarat with a record-breaking win in the state. The saffron party has registered the best-ever performance by any party in the state winning 156 out of 182 seats with a vote share of around 52.5%.
Congress on the other hand was able to upset BJP in Northern Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh by bagging 40 seats out of 68 total seats.
BJP Equals Left Front’s Record For West Bengal
With this victory the ruling BJP has never lost any assembly election since 1995 and is now going to also equal the Left Front’s feat of seven consecutive terms in West Bengal, where the CPM ruled for 34 years. In Guajrat, incumbent chief minister Bhupendrabai Patel achieved a sweeping victory in the Ghatlodia constituency.
A surprise victory in Gujarat election was Samajwadi Party candidate Kandhal Jadeja has been successful in winning the Porbandar seat. With this, the Samajwadi Party’s account has been opened in the state assembly elections. Kandhal Jadeja switched to SP from NCP, after he did not get ticket from the party. He contested the election by changing the party.
The Aam Aadmi Party despite much pomp and show in Gujarat could not win more than 5 seats and Congress was also defeated badly.

It was quite intresting to note that the BJP swept the distant Saurashtra-Kutch region, reversing the losses of the 2017 Assembly election when the region voted overwhelmingly for the Congress, helping it bag 77of the 182 Assembly seats.
The political pulse of country was surprised that not just the agrarian region, but the tribal belt of southern Gujarat has also turned saffron this time.
Poor Show For AAP, Congress
Congress poor showing in Gujarat was also result of poor leadership of Rahul Gandhi’s . He all but displayed complete withdrawal from Gujarat’s campaign trail also dulled the party’s chances.
Gujarat election had interesting facets too.
BJP also registered three records in Gujarat simultaneously. It won maximum seats, maximum vote share and largest lead in the state polls.
In the last assembly elections in 2017, BJP had secured just 99 seats, Congress won 77 and 1 seat won by NCP. Bhartiya Tribal Party and Independent won 2 and 3 seats respectively.
Taking responsibility for party’s disastrous performance, Gujarat Congress in-charge Raghu Sharma resigned.
HP The Saving Grace For Congress
The Congress, meanwhile, heaved a sigh of big relief with its victory in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh. The win comes as a saving grace for the party after its disastrous showing in Gujarat and the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) elections.
In Himachal Pradesh, the BJP had been banking on the achievements of PM Modi for a smooth transition to a second term, even though the state diligently swings between the BJP and the Congress every five years.

On the other hand of the spectrum, the Congress party too had its some celebration on Twitter over Himachal victory.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said, “Heartfelt thanks to the people of Himachal Pradesh for this decisive victory. Hearty congratulations to all Congress workers and leaders. Your hard work and dedication are truly behind this victory,” he said in a tweet in Hindi. “I assure you again, every promise made to the public will be fulfilled at the earliest,” Gandhi added.
The recent verdicts have proven much relief for the BJP by registering historic and landslide victory in the Gujarat elections. Gujarat has lot significance in terms of nunber of seats in the Parliament.
Although the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress also registered some sort of consolation prize on form of victories in Delhi MCD and Himachal Pradesh elections.
