24 November: Former Minister J&K Yogesh Sawhney met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss important ongoing political issues of Jammu and Kashmir. Sawhney congratulated Kharge on his recent appointment as All India Congress President and welcomed his leadership. He discussed matters pertaining to the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and apprised the President of the local issues and needs. Sawhney later explained that ‘Kharge Ji’s initiative to know and understand local issues will help the party build a better mechanism and strengthen the organization in Jammu and Kashmir’ and he had sought to highlight major issues of J&K in front of the national leadership.
After meeting with the Congress President, Sawhney also met with senior Congress leader Sh. Randeep Singh Surjewala and AICC Coordinator attached to the office of the Congress President, MP Rajya Sabha Sh. Syed Nasir Hussain and discussed important party affairs of J&K. The leaders, who have had a long association since their respective Youth Congress days, also discussed the strategy to strengthen and uplift the party in Jammu Kashmir.
Sawhney raised both political and people-centric issues during his visit, attention, and work on which will lead to the betterment of the party and the people alike. He also expressed his gratitude to the Congress President for his time and interest in hearing the burning concerns regarding political development in particularly Jammu & Kashmir. Sawhney stated that due to the absence of an elected government, the UT lacks in various accounts and the Former Minister gave his inputs on two fronts, for internal and fundamental strengthening of the Congress party itself within Jammu Kashmir and its organizational framework, and two on the party’s relationship with the people.
Mallikarjun Kharge, who had assumed charge as the Congress President in October, had stated his intention of strengthening the party and reaching out to party members. Former Minister Yogesh Sawhney reiterated the statement and said that ‘Kharge Ji as the President is aware and interested in uplifting the party across India and in J&K, for which we are eager to lend our full support. He said that the meeting with the Congress President was fruitful as he was able to share inputs from Jammu and Kashmir directly to the top leadership so that areas of improvement can be recognized and a comprehensive plan of action can be devised to tackle the local problems unique to J&K. Sawhney also said that he was grateful to Mallikarjun Kharge Ji for the time and support and stated that the meeting proved fruitful as he was able to discuss many important issues and received inputs from the national leaders.
