Srinagar, Nov 19: Police on Saturday carried out raids at different locations in connection with the ‘online’ threat to some scribes and employees associated with different media houses.
The raids were carried out in Kashmir capital Srinagar, and South Kashmir’s twin districts of Anantnag and Kulgam.
A threat purposely from militant outfit TRF had gone recently viral wherein the outfit had accused some Journalists and employees of taking sides and working for the police and Army. Police have already registered a case in this regard.
Media reports quoting Intelligence Agencies said that a Turkey-based Kashmiri journalist is behind this threat.
The Kashmir Zone Police in a tweet wrote that massive searches in connection with an investigation of a case related to the recent threat to journalists started by Police at 10 locations in Srinagar, Anantnag, and Kulgam. Police further said that details shall follow after the searches are over.
Sources told news agency that searches were carried out in the houses of some Journalists who have in past worked with ‘Greater Kashmir’ and ‘Rising Kashmir’.
Searches were also conducted in the houses of those men affiliated with militant organizations, some of them are staying abroad.
Sources added that some of the locations in Srinagar where searches were conducted include Rainawari, HMT, Nowgam, and Rangreith.
Meanwhile, police said that in the wake of recent threat issued to journalists by a proscribed militant outfit, Srinagar Police conducted simultaneous searches at various locations across Kashmir.
A case vide FIR No. 82/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered in PS Sherghari against militant handlers, active militants & militant associates of proscribed militant outfit LeT & its offshoot TRF for online publication & dissemination of direct threat letters to Journalists & reporters based in Kashmir.
During the course of the investigation, each team comprised of 4-5 members and led by an Inspector/SI rank officer monitored by the SDPO concerned. The raids were supervised by SP South City Srinagar Lakshya Sharma-IPS and launched simultaneous searches at 12 locations across the valley including the houses of fugitives like Sajjad Gul, Mukhtar Baba, active militants of proscribed militant outfit LeT (TRF) and other suspects in Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam Districts.
The premises which were raided and searched belong to Mohd Rafi at Nigeen, Khalid Gul at Anantnag, Rashid Maqbool at Lal Bazar, Momin Gulzar at Eidgah, Basit Dar at Kulgam, Sajjad Kralyari at Rainawari, Gowhar Geelani at Soura, Qazi Shibli at Anantnag, Sajjad Sheikh @ Sajjad Gul at HMT Srinagar, Mukhtar Baba at Nowgam, Waseem Khalid at Rawalpora and Adil Pandit at Khanyar Srinagar.
During the search, all the legal formalities were followed professionally and consequent to the searches some suspects have been brought for examination and questioning. The seized materials by the respective search teams include mobiles, laptops, memory cards, pen-drives & other digital devices, documents, bank papers, rubber stamps, passports, other suspect papers, cash, Saudi currency etc.
“The investigation in the instant case is in full swing and general public is requested to bring any information that is relevant to this case in the notice of Srinagar Police,” police said.
