Pulwama, Nov 19: Guddora village from South Kashmir’s Pulwama district is reeling under darkness for past month much to the discomfiture of the locals, especially students.
The village was short of a power transformer but when the locals took up the issue with the authorities under ‘Back to Village’ program, a new transformer was installed in the hamlet a month ago, but even after the expiry of over a month, it has not been made functional.
Anguished locals told the news agency that Rs 5 lakh has already been credited into the account of the Power Development Department and yet the Department has not made this vital transformer functional.
“Department is now trying to fleece locals by demanding Rs 2500 per family to get the cables for the transformer. It is strange that the department is charging hefty bills from the consumers and has even received monetary assistance from the district administration for the installation of this transformer and yet it has been resorting to dilly dally tactics much to the sufferings of the people,” a group of locals said.
The locals while seeking the intervention of district administration have appealed to the higher-ups to look into the matter and ease their sufferings.
