In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh and was later taken to Bhagalpur district of Bihar where she was raped for four months.
The girl has been rescued by Bhagalpur police on Wednesday. One man accused of kidnapping the girl has been arrested by police.
Police said the girl has been handed over to her family after she recorded her statement before the magistrate. The accused has been identified as 19-year-old Amit Rai.
“Amit kidnapped the 13-year-old girl. Police had filed an FIR in the matter on July 28. We have rescued the girl from Bhagalpur. The girl told police that she was abducted by Rai, who illegally confined and sexually assaulted her. The police rescued the girl on Sunday,” said Durga Prasad Tiwari, Additional SP.
Police later sent the girl for medical examination and recorded her statement before the magistrate. The ASP said the girl has been handed over to the family and the accused Rai has been sent to judicial custody.
In a similar incident reported from Assam’s Karimganj, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by six teenaged boys. The accused aged between 13 to 15 years belonged to tea garden workers’ families.
The minor rape victim’s family filed a complaint with the police on November 7. The victim’s family alleged that their daughter was sexually assaulted in Kalinagar area under Ramkrishna Nagar police station. Acting on the complaint, police launched a search operation and arrested all the six accused.
