Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 6 attended a mass marriage ceremony in Gujarat and blessed the couples. The mass wedding event was organised at Jawahar Maidan by a foundation in Bhavnagar city of the state.
As many as 551 girls whose fathers had passed away tied the knot at the mega event.
PM Modi asked the newly-wed couples not to organise a separate wedding function afterwards under the pressure of relatives and appealed to them to same the money for their children.
“Gujarat has gradually adopted this practice of mass weddings. Earlier, people used to borrow money for organising a grand function just to show off. But now, people have become aware. They have now turned to mass-marriage functions,” said PM Modi.
After attending the mass marriage ceremony, PM Modi praised the people organising such welfare programmes that help the needy.
“‘Papa Ni Pari’ was a unique mass marriage programme in Bhavnagar. The manner in which people dedicate themselves for good causes illustrates our societal strength and collective spirit. I would like to laud the organisers and congratulate those who got married today,” PM Modi tweeted.

The couples expressed immense happiness and thanked the prime minister for taking out time from his busty schedule and coming to bless them as they kickstarted their new innings.
One of the newly-married girls at the event said she did not expect that PM Narendra Modi would attend the mass marriage event and bless them. The girl expressed her gratitude to the prime minister and said she was very happy with his gesture.
Another bride also expressed her happiness with the PM attending the mass wedding ceremony. She said PM Modi will definitely take the country on the path of development.
