Electricity is one of the biggest inventions of the modern world which has revolutionized all spheres of life. The thrust after post Independence in India has been to make rapid strides in reaching electricity to every nook and corner of the country. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government has made it the top priority to ensure that electricity reaches every village of the country.

High Success In Rural Electrification

The Jammu and Kashmir region over the years has made tremendous progress in ensuring that electricity reaches every village of J&K. Post Abrogation of article 370 these efforts have gained much tempo and momentum. Jammu and Kashmir in recent times has won many accolades and laurels in ensuring rural electrification which would illuminate every village of Jammu and Kashmir with blessings of electricity.

This year, in what is no less than a historic development, Jammu and Kashmir had received a reward worth Rs 100 crore from the Government of India for achieving the impressive target of 100 per cent electrification ahead of timeline. This is a development for all of us to be proud of and for which the concerned departments and stakeholders deserve applause.

Pertinently, the Union Territory had achieved another milestone under Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana ‘Saubhagya’ with J&K accomplishing the 100 percent target of rural electrification, that too before the deadline.

Saubhagya Scheme: Electrification For Every Village, Every District

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Saubhagya scheme on 25th September 2017 to achieve universal household electrification covering every village and every district in the country. The scheme outlay was Rs 16,320 crore including gross budgetary support of Rs 12,320 crore.

Rural electrification is the process of bringing electrical power to rural and remote areas. It is a matter of jubilation that The J&K Power Department Development with great dynamism worked hard in ensuring electrification to every village which is visible from the fact that almost 3,57,405 households have been electrified in the whole of Jammu and Kashmir.

Dynamic Leadership Of LG Shri Manoj Sinha

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha has shown special interest and dynamism in taking our electricity to brighter era and ensure power lamp lights in every village of the union territory.

We also need to bear in mind that due to the challenging weather scenario especially in the winters, uninterrupted power supply in Kashmir has remained a challenge. But that parameter is also improving over the years. One hopes that in coming times it shall improve further.

The electrification of every area of Jammu and Kashmir considering our tough geography and terrain is a huge feat for Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha led administration, and it deserves all the appreciation.

The heartening facet is that now those far flung areas which had only dreamt of electricity are seeing the life changing moments in form of positives of electricity in their lives.

With reference to success achieved on rural electrification front, some examples are truly heart-warming . For the first time, after 75 years of independence, Saddal village in Udhampur district and Ganouri-Tanta village in Doda district saw the light of an electric bulb, ending decades of darkness from the lives of villagers and making their lives enjoyable.

Proud Examples

Such examples are now wide spread throughout the length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir. This achievement shall greatly benefit the youth. They shall be able to devote more time to education, and shall become equally competitive as compared to youths from other areas.

The hope on ground zero is that in coming times, both in terms of supply and the revenue generated, the power sector of Jammu and Kashmir shall be the leader in the country.
