Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir breathe a little more easily in the winter months with the passes getting snowbound and infiltration of terrorists becoming more difficult. This year promises to be different with terror handlers deciding on October 1 to continue attacks in the state.
Maulana Shamsher Bukhari, deputy commander of the Hizbul mujahideen and Asrar Rehman, divisional chief of the Lashkar-e-Toiba, chaired a conference in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and repeatedly stressed the need to “free” the people of Jammu and Kashmir and involve the people of the union territory in jehadi activity.
That the terrorist leadership is seriously considering more violence in the coming months is evident from the “jointness” at the meeting. All terror groups were represented. Among the others present were Zahid Hussain Tarabi, commander of the Lashkare Toiba, Muzaffarabad district, Thahir Mohammed, the commander of the Muzaffarabad district of the Hizbul mujahideen and Amir Atiqur Rahman, the local Jaish leader.
Security forces have already been briefed about the situation and the possibility of more attempts at infiltration across the line of control in the coming weeks. The attempt is often to send in as many terrorists as possible before the passes close.
