We are yet to fully come out of the covid-19 pandemic and another virus, though not novel, has emerged in Jammu and scores of people have fallen ill. According to a report released by the authorities of health and medical education department, more than three thousand patients with dengue virus infection have been admitted in different hospitals of Jammu while as six people have already lost their lives in the last few days.
At a time when Corona virus is still alive and India has recorded almost three thousand new cases yesterday, Dengue virus has emerged as a new challenge for us especially the healthcare authorities. This mosquito born virus has thrown a new challenge, which we all have to deal with collectively. Jammu Municipal Corporation has an important role to play in this regard. JMC must ensure that disinfectant spray is done at the places where these mosquitoes’ find a breeding ground. JMC should take immediate steps for the removal of dirt and other waste as these things can worsen the situation further and we may face a tough time.
Since we have seen an early onset of winter in the valley as we received the season’s first snowfall in the higher reaches, people have started preparing to leave the valley for next four or five months. During this period thousands of people go to Jammu escape from the chilling cold of winters. Jammu administration has to take extra care so that people coming to Jammu for winters have not to face any problems. We have a huge influx of tourists and tradesmen in the valley and all of them via Jammu, so screening centers should be established along national highway so that people coming to valley can be screened for the Dengue Virus. Administraion has to keep a vigil so that situation does not go out of hand.
