Locals of Qazigund village in Pulwama protest against water scarcity

Pulwama,,18-Oct : Residents of Qazigund village in Pulwama district on Tuesday blocked Pulwama-Shopian road to protest against shortage of water.
Accusing the authorities of ignoring their plight, Scores of men and woman assembled on Pulwama-Shopian road near DC office and protested against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.
The residents said that they were facing acute water scarcity for the past several months.
The protesting locals told that the water supply to their village has been suspended from last few weeks. “We have already apprised the PHE officials about the issue but no action has taken yet,” they added.

The protestors were demanding that the negligence of the JE posted in the area should be taken seriously, while drinking water should be restored in the area immediately.
Meanwhile, , Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Baseer ul Haq Chaudhry said that the department is providing water to the village by tanker service thrice a day. About the negligence by Concerned JE, DC said these are baseless allegations.
“We have Sathergund new water scheme, the work on which has been recently started under the estimated cost of 8 crore rupees. It will be completed within shortest period of time after which the residents will get uninterrupted water supply, DC added”
