The government of India has approved an amount of three hundred and twenty-two crore rupees for the establishment of two new medical colleges, one in Handwara area of the border district of shopian and another in the Udhampur district of the Jammu division. This amount is being released under the centrally sponsored schemes and the construction of these medical colleges will prove to be a boon for the health sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
The world has recently come out of the Covid-19 pandemic, though the virus is still active in many parts of the world including our country the fact is that the virus has been rendered ineffective by the timely action of governments across the globe. Nevertheless, this pandemic has taught a very valuable lesson to the world and that is, we should focus more on strengthening our health infrastructure.
During the past few years, the government has established a network of primary health centers and other health facilities in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir besides establishing some medical colleges in different areas of the UT. These medical colleges are already functional and are contributing their bit to strengthening the healthcare system in JK. The government has spent huge amounts in strengthening the facilities in the hospitals and our hospitals have upgraded their infrastructure to a satisfactory extent.
The establishment of new medical colleges is going to give a flip to the healthcare facilities across the UT. Besides training doctors, these colleges will cater to a large portion of the population and provide them with better medical facilities at their doorsteps. Besides, it will reduce the patient flow in the hospitals located in the cities and will be a ban on the overall healthcare system of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. LG administration and the central government surely deserve praise for this noble step.
