Absence of street lights in Sopore irks residents
Baramulla,, 16–Sep: Residents of Sopore town in Baramulla district have been facing inconvenience due to the lack of streetlights on the Roads as those installed have been lying defunct from the past few years making it difficult for people to commute during the night.
As per the residents of the town, they have to face immense hardships in absence of lights while authorities are acting as mute spectators.
They added that as soon as dusk sets in, the entire town plunges into darkness and the concerned departments had not bothered to repair the streetlights or install new ones where ever needed.
Besides, it also poses a threat to the lives of residents as many accidents had taken place on the road.
“For the past one year they have been running from pillar to post to get the streetlights installed, but in vain. A large number of pedestrians and two-wheelers have met with accidents on the road or were bitten by stray dogs due to the absence of street lights,” they added.
Meanwhile, the aggrieved residents appealed the concerned authorities to look into the matter and either get the lights installed or repair the defunct one’s at an earliest.
