Forest Department destroys Cannabis cultivation from Forest areas in South Kashmir.

Forest Department has launched vigorous campaign and field operations in all the four Districts of South Kashmir to free Forests from banned cannabis cultivation.The drives have been carried out in Anantnag, Lidder, Shopian, Kulgam Forest Divisions and Awantipora area of District Pulwama .

In Chaklipora area of Kuthar Forests,Anantnag Forest Division, massive anti bhang operation was carried out jointly with the support of Forest protection Force where wild Bhang growing naturally in the Forest area was completely destroyed. The Conservator of Forests, Kashmir South Circle, Shri Irfan Ali Shah himself led the operations in the field .
Mohd Ramzan Mir, Divisional Forest Officer Anantnag Forest Division and Sh Nawab Ahmad Deputy Director,Forest Protection Force also accompanied the CoF during field operations.

He said that Drug Addiction is emerging to be a serious concern in the country, especially in the younger generation leading to dangerous and bad consequences not just for the person using drugs, but for the family and society at large.

He further said that drug abuse has resulted in an increase in crime rate and has an overall negative impacts on the society. He said that prevention has proven to be the most effective strategy to counter this problem. He informed that Forest department has played a vital role to destroy completely the naturally grown Cannabis in the Forest areas of South Kashmir to make it drug free.

He thanked the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment GOI for launching Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to make the Country drug free.

He informed that various programmes were organized in all Forest Divisions of South Circle where pledge under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was taken by all Forest employees to make community, family, friends and individuals free of drug menace. He further said that that Forest department is making every effort for making Nasha Mukht Jammu Kashmir a reality with active support of different line departments, NGOs,Civil society etc. He requested the public especially the young generation to leave drugs and explore forests for recreation and solace.
