SIX DAY INDIAN ARMY – SPARK MINDA FOUNDATION MEGA CAMP FOR EMPOWERMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES CONCLUDES AT KUPWARA

Srinagar, 27 Aug 2022. Spark Minda Foundation (SMF) in collaboration with the Indian Army in Kashmir organised a six day Mega Camp at Zangli Garrison, Kupwara under from 22 to 27 Aug aimed at empowerment of people with disabilities.

This Camp benefitted more than 350 people from the Valley who were affected by locomotive, speech and hearing disabilities. The objective of the camp was to reach to the community of Kashmir Valley for providing accessibility and empower them to lead their lives with dignity.

The Indian Army using its vast network and goodwill spread information about the Camp as also brought the people with disabilities from various parts of the Kashmir Valley to the Camp set up at Zangli Garrison, Kupwara.

People with locomotive disabilities were provided with prosthetic legs, orthotics, crutches, walkers and wheel chairs. People with speech and hearing impairment were provided with the hearing aids.

Spark Minda undertook various Community Development programmes through its CSR wing Spark Minda Foundation (SMF), which was formed in 2014. The main aim of SMF is to work for community development by catering education, women empowerment, facilitation of healthcare, upliftment of people with disabilities and to sustain the environment.

Today on the concluding day of the camp a felicitation ceremony was organised wherein the volunteers of Jaipur Foot, Confederation of Indian Industries J&K and the local NGO Save Youth, Save Future were felicitated. During the felicitation ceremony, Major General Abhijit Pendharkar, GOC 28 Infantry Division quoted “There is no better service than to serve humanity”.

Mrs Sarika Minda, Chairperson, Spark Minda Foundation mentioned that it is a beautiful programme designed strategically which will impact a number of lives for the people in the Valley.

The camp since its first day itself, became instantly popular with people from the nearby districts. People with Disabilities (PwDs) arriving at the camp were provided with suitable assistive aids in partnership with Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) popularly known as Jaipur Foot, as per requirement of each person, free of cost.

The camp has been appreciated by the locals who expressed their gratitude for organising the camp for the underprivileged at such a large scale. This joint venture will endeavour to achieve the aim of ‘Empowerment of People with Disabilities’
