BSF HOMEPAGE PAID TO MARTYRS OF MOUNTAINEERING
EXPEDITION AT PANAMIK, NUBRA VALLEY, LADAKH
Srinagar 27th Aug 2022: On the behalf of DG BSF, a team of BSF officials, led by Sh. Raja Babu Singh IPS, IG, Kashmir Frontier BSF, Ms Sonali Mishra, IPS, IG(Trg), FHQ BSF (Trg Dte), Sh S S Chandel, DIG BSF Srinagar and other Officials of BSF paid floral tributes to thirteen BSF martyrs at Village Puckpochey Panamik in Nubra Valley, Ladakh (UT); who were part of BSF Mountaineering expedition that went missing on 27th August 1995 while scaling Mt Saser Kangri (Ht 25,171 ft). The ceremony was attended by Brig P D Thakur, VSM, 102 Inf Bde Partapur (Hunder), Sh Dorjey Galtsan, KAS, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Nubra Valley and Sh Ashiq Hussain Malik KPS, Dy Superintendent of Police, Nubra valley, Army, Police, prominent personalities of the area and local population of village Puckpochey Panamik and its surrounding areas. In this connection BSF organized a civic action program and distributed community items (Cooking utensils, Chairs, Tables, e.t.c) sports items to school children.
The above event is organized each year on 27th August at village Puckpochey Panamik to pay homage to the BSF mountaineers, (S/Sh S D Thomas, DC, K L Negi, DC, SI T Rangdoo, SI Jumma Khan, SI Jamuna Prasad, L/NK Suresh Kumar, L/NK Nandan Singh, L/NK Kalam Singh, L/NK Raj Kashor, L/NK Mehar Singh, CT Obaidullah Khan, Ct Punchok Rigin, and Ct Viresh Kumar) and gratitude to the local people who had provided all out support to BSF during search and rescue ops of the team.
The aim of such expeditions has always been to encourage BSF personnel to pursue the adventurous outdoor sports. The experience gained by the mountaineers is gainfully utilized for specialized Operations in high altitudes/ snow bound areas, where the BSF is deployed on the Line of Control (LOC) in J&K.
